About Me
Art consultant, cultural leader, and scholar of the philosophic, literary and artistic production of the Spanish Empire and its provinces during the Early Modern Era, Nínive María Vargas de la Peña has a wide-ranging practical experience into managing cultural events for public and specialized audiences in different platforms; merging art history and technology aiming to expand public discourses of culturally important issues. As an activist she has received multiple awards including “Mujer Tec” (Social Labor), and “Perfiles e Historias” by Grupo Reforma for her work at AcosoEnLaU.

Independent scholar for diverse publications of academic and public diffusion, Níni —as she likes being called—has been an art researcher and writer for international institutions including Sotheby’s NY , while providing investigative assistance to cultural institutions and academicians for the subjects of Philosophy, and the History of Fine Arts and Architecture in the Universidad Católica de Chile, the United Nations and Columbia University in the city of New York. Since a young age, she was summoned to be part of the cultural council of El Norte (2018-2020) for the leading group of Grupo Reforma after her work providing safe spaces for education in Mexico through the creation of protocols of assistance towards victims of sexual harassment.

Bachelor in Letters by the Universidad de Monterrey (2018), and Master in Arts for Art History and Archaeology by Columbia University in the city of New York (2021), her main interests are grounded in the political discourse of representation within the iconography of religious, ethnical and sexual minorities present in the Spanish Empire throughout the 16th and 18th centuries. Her research into the subject can be found in the academic journal Humanitas, her blog Looking Closer, along other pending publications.

Nowadays, you can find her providing private art tours in Madrid and Europe through Context Travel while striving to decode the messages in art history for all audiences. Her heartfelt goal is to keep the conversation with our past alive while shaping the history that humanity and art history will take through emphasizing what we owe to each other in the construction of society. In times of leisure, you can find her drawing portraits of strangers, visiting the latest art exhibition or carrying her personal library around with the help of even more strangers.
